The view from my window this morning shows no rain, and glorious encouraging grey clouds which promise cool air and invite us outside for a walk around Gastown.
And how’s this for the best origin story ever - which may or may not be true (thanks google) … Gastown is named for Captain John Deighton, a loquacious publican who established a pub plying mill workers with whisky to build it for him. This chap was so chatty they called him gassy Jack and named the town not Deighton, but Gastown. I really hope this story is true because honestly, how fantastic is this story and this name.
It’s a quaint area still in recovery from the ravages of covid, which closed a lot of the businesses down, and chief among the attractions is the steam powered clock. Built by horologist Raymond L Saunders I think as a tourist attraction it whistles and shoots steam out on the hour and chimes the quarter hour with Westminster quarters.
After lunch, which for me was soup and a cheese toastie, a very WendyWeather appropriate choice imho, & oh my goodness look at this cheese toastie
If you’re curious the soup was clam chowder, very hearty, after this MGM and I were very much in need of a good lie down. Fortunately we’re on holidays so we can do that, for the whole afternoon! There might have been a bit of crochet time. So lucky.
