The view from my window this morning
Apparently I was a bit harsh on the poor old Fairmont yesterday? Well prepare yourself for a different reaction today, because the Banff Fairmont is everything the Lake Louise Fairmont wasn’t. Both have impressive facades although I think Banff wins.
Both have impressive public areas, probably on par.
No problems getting into the high tea, which we couldn’t get a look in at Lake Louise, and it was amazing. Enhanced by:
a) this view
b) the wait staff.
People who are good at their job make everything so much better for everybody. It’s really nice to be able to say ‘great job’ by leaving a tip, which we do at home. Here the tip is obligatory, so there’s no way to show our appreciation. I don’t mind leaving the tip but I miss the opportunity to say well done when it is deserved.
c) the deliciousness
We thought we should walk all this off but the call of the room was too strong we went for a nap instead. Although we did trudge along the 2k corridor so that got our step counter raving, Our room is that tiny dot at the vanishing point.
To be fair to our waistlines, after our rest we hiked to Bow falls - through the gorgeous nature - and then followed the river into Banff. What a pretty little town FULL of souvenir shops all selling the exact same things. I have no idea how all of them could possibly stay afloat.
As in Vancouver the public transport system is easy, clean & efficient. We caught the bus from Lake Louise this morning &, as the return journey was mostly uphill tonight we bused home from Banff after dinner. Google helped us find the bus station with VR interactive display - so cool.
