Halifax

Halifax, for some reason I expected it would look like this …

A quaint, quiet fishing village, but as I lie here listening to the live jazz at 1am and the city youth’s colourful exuberance outside my window I acknowledge Halifax’s big city status.

My day was coloured by my poor health but I did manage a walk to the dockside markets and take a trip to a local landmark called the Citadel.

This is a National Historic site, a fort established in 1749 and an essential part of the town’s defences. Operated today as a living museum, which I just love. Volunteers, passionate about their local history are the best ones to learn from. This fella was very keen to share ALL his knowledge with me.

MGM saw the writing on the wall early and did a bunk (rat bastard) while the young fella followed me from room to room enthusiastically sharing all the history with me. When I did extricate myself long enough to go looking for him I heard a distant ‘Wendy!’ Yes MGM was as far away from that history stuff as possible.

MGM also chose the dinner location.

Doesn’t he look lobster-happy. I had a tummy calming meal of brown bread, ginger ale & jealousy.
