Rocky Mountaineer day 1

so there’s going to be lots of views from my window today, starting with this pre-dawn ugly o’clock pic from our wonderful Opus hotel, which we’re leaving this morning because we’re going on the Rocky Mountaineer today.

And as you can see MGM was not too thrilled about the early start either, although I’m posting this pic mainly because he posted an absolutely rubbish pic of me without impunity or compunction so back atcha dude …

Apart from the uncomfortable am-ness, today was amazing. I didn’t know how excited I was about the prospect of a long train journey until the minute I arrived at the train station but, walking into that huge shed-like ‘station’ was so zingy’ I was instantly thrilled. They go out of their way to make it special, they even have a Scottish piper to announce the start of the day.

We spoiled ourselves and got gold leaf tickets and oh man - so worth it. Just look at us in our glass topped cabin.

Meals in the dining car are just delicious.

I got to crochet while watching this beautiful world go by & here are the rest of the views from the window

Our guide, Chase, tells us all the interesting facts, like get ready to take a picture on the right. This Osprey nest is 100 years old. Apparently these birds hand them on from generation to generation.

And ‘if we’re lucky we might see an eagle in a nest get your cameras ready, one two three click click click’ how impressive to have the eagle sitting on the branch and phot ready.

Oh I took sooooo many more pics but boring for you to keep on adding. We were so lucky to have sunny skies for most of the day and a little bit of rain to make the day perfect.  I added whisky, which Chase brings whenever I ask, right to my oh so comfy chair.

Detraining & moving 50 people (from our car alone) to the coach & into the hotel was the most efficient thing I’ve ever seen. Top marks Rocky Mountaineer.
