The view from my window this morning (Bow falls)
It’s hard to see from the photos but we can see them really well from the window, I zoomed in for you
One of the best things about Banff has been the people we’ve met along the way. Yes yes, I know I’ve been banging on about how I don’t understand people and all the annoyingness (they’re in this post too). I am, however, an equal opportunity interlocutor so am willing to acknowledge the good when I come across it. And we bumped into it quite a bit in Banff.
Erica, our excellent waitress (no, I am NOT saying wait-person sorry but that is just stupid) for high tea recommended several things to do, all of which were perfect. Yesterday’s trip to Bow falls was her idea and today’s trip to the Banff Gondola was too - and it was as amazing as she suggested. There was squealing on the ride up (MGM is such a baby) and squishing to a pulp of someone’s hand on the way down (okay that was me - going over the edge was like being in a roller coaster) but the up & down bit in between, when I could open my eyes, was so fun!
And here’s where I refer to my aforementioned what the what people?! You’re here with your friend, who’s sitting right next to you and look! LOOK! Don’t be scrolling Facebook up here, you’re missing it!
Good old TripAdvisor recommended the Cascade gardens as a Banff activity. I like a nice walk around a pretty Spring garden so we headed there after lunch in town. Which for Mike was an ‘ugly potato’ because who can walk past a hotdog covered in potato & deep fried & thusly named?
Anyway, where was I … oh yes. You know how there’s a thing called Pinterest fail? Well there should also be a TripAdvisor fail too, for when you don’t do your research and blindly follow what TA says. Apparently Spring in Banff is not quite the same as Spring at home inasmuch as it appears Banff doesn’t do the Spring burgeoning with life and blooms. I hasten to add this was not one of Erica’s recommendations. I guess she knows about the no flowers for you thing.
Expected
Actual
No flowers & not so much cascading as stagnant water lol
We visited the local Library, it is one of the rules - all Libraries must be investigated - and here we see another example of good people in action. How fantastic is this, they loan out things. Firstly ‘thing’ is one of my favourite words, it just is, so a “Library of things” is spectacular and secondly, how fantastic! If you’re a local and you can’t afford a sewing box, vacuum cleaner, tool box, flir camera etc. go to the Library and they’ll help you out.
Also some Librarians have a great sense of humour
Our next nice lady was Emily. Well she had a leg up didn’t she. Not only with the name but she’s an expat so we had lots to talk about (I think there might be more Aussies than Canadians here). She made our dining experience at this funky bar in the hotel so much nicer. I really do appreciate someone who is good at their job.
We’re headed to Calgary early tomorrow to catch a flight back to Wendy & Tony in Vancouver but I’ll admit I’ll be sorry to say goodbye to Banff. I hope I get back here some day - so much more to do here.
