After a quick trip to the local bakery & butcher we breakfasted here - on crusty bread, cheese, meats and pastries mm mmmm mmmmmmm
our daytrip today was to Ahrweiler.
and here is a yarn shop AD1620 - forward thinkers ... I like that.
after walking around oooing and ahhhhing at all the quaint prettiness it was time for cake lunch
some walking around the old city walls which, no matter how many times or in how many cities, never ceases to amaze me.
and a visit to the mighty Rhine for some boat watching and schloss-spotting
Drachenburg Castle in medieval folklore is the location where the Norseman Sigurd killed a dragon. this fable lead the Bishop of Cologne to build the first castle, called Siebengebirge, on the hilltop in 1138AD.
Baron Stephan von Sarter built the current Drachenburg Castle down the hill a bit from 1882-1884 and a railway to make getting to the top convenient and easy, which is still in use today. he did have plans to live in the new castle but never did.
so many of my photos look like this
with the backs of my friends because I am always lagging behind with the photo taking
Here we are returning home all touristy-tired for cordon-bleu dining thanks to our wonderful hostess and mighty fine chef Liz. Then we shared a bottle of Licor 43 and excellent conversation until 5am (well some of us did - the others piked out about midnight)
