Our cherubs spent a lot of time on this train first time they came here.
Simple pleasures today & some necessary evils. Even in this beautiful holdiay-land clothes need to be laundered so, after some time spent in the laundry by MGM (gotta love a man who does laundry) we headed into Bad Aussee.
Such a pretty little town.
Such a pretty little town.
We had gishy cake, well I had gishy cake. MGM had green tea. I know! I was confused too. Can you see the plastic on my Kirschtorte? All the cake has it, couldn't be to keep it fresh, any fresher and it would be cake mix, but peeling it off it adds something to the experience somehow.
On the 15 hour drive from Denmanrk to Grundlseee, we arrived via a different route and, even though it was snowing pretty hard, we couldn't help but notice this castle which we've not visited yet. We noticed it, even though we were tired and it was blizzarding, because the Austrians light up their monumnents at night - take note Danish monument owners!
It's Trautenfels Castle.
It's Trautenfels Castle.
Building on the site dates back to 1260 but what you can see here is the relatively modern Baroque castle of the 1670s. It was of course, closed but as I've said before we quite like that.
This is why they built castles on the top of hills - no enemies sneeking up them.
MGM has plans for tonight so no lingering. He's found the channel that televises the Superbowl, one happy MGM! Although the commentary is in German, when they get excited, as commentators do in any language, they sound so like a group of energetic Swedish chefs so it's hard to take it seriously. I see an evening of crochet in my future and I'm okay with that.
