on the road (and in the air) again

The view from my window this morning

yes. yes I was up before the sun. again.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, I just want it noted for the record that I can function in the morning. I do, however, function better in the morning when I'm staying in a five star hotel and getting up early to catch a flight to ... oh I don't know ... how about Iceland!

Before we head off to Iceland let me show you the quirky hotel we stayed in Dublin, think Tim Burton meets American Horror story (the hotel one).

It was very comfy even though I was always expecting the furniture to come to life.

Today was a travel-day, first the plane - here is our first glimpse of Iceland.

Then the car saying out drive-on-the-RIGHT mantra, through our first taste of the moonscape like Icelandic landscape, please excuse the blurry through the moving car window photos ...

We're staying in a little cabin in the snow for a couple of nights so we needed supplies. Whilst obtaining these at the local supermarket we accosted a minister (well Tony did) to ask him about Icelandic cemeteries. I know this sounds odd but on our way we had passed a few churches and were startled to see that the graves were all lit up. This was so unusual we just had to know what this was all about! It turns out that this is a very pretty Icelandic custom in the season of Advent. How wonderful.
