the view from my window today comes to you from the train to St Petersburg
It was hard to say goodbye to Moscow, because we didn't even scratch the surface of this amazing and unexpectedly subterranean place. You cross the road by going underneath it. Your catch the train, underground and there are whole shopping centres down there, so easy to get lost! I'm so glad we were able to spend some time time there and I really hope we can get back for a longer stay in proper travelling time of the year - winter. I know, I know Moscow in winter, extreme weather right? Well our guide says that 10 years ago the Muscovites had to endure temps of -20 or colder but now -10° is considered seriously cold. I can do -10°, no problems and it would be such a pretty place covered in snow.
We caught the fast train, assisted by our lovely guide - if you're new to travelling I suggest a guide in Moscow is a good way to go, because there's not a lot of bi-lingual signs yet.
The platform was so long we thought we might be walking to St Petersburg!
Business class carriage was pretty spacious and comfy
Wendy and Tony got their little corner set up very quickly and I suspect there was a bit of blogging done (Tony, MGM & I race to see who can update their blog the fastest, MGM always wins!)
Good thing about the train is you get to see the countryside
Four hours later we arrived, were met by the most taciturn Russian we have met so far, who did not say one word to us in either Russian or English but we got to the car and to the hotel so no matter.
This is our last hotel room for this trip I'm very happy/sad about this - it's very confusing.
Not our last dinner though and Tony decided to up the ante as per the beer situation.
Before.
After. (MGM helped)
