culture and quad bikes (but mainly quad bikes)

The view from my window this morning

After a sleep-in (yay) and leisurely breakfast, Wendy & I walked into town.

This pretty scenery is in town.

but we went for the shopping (quelle surprise).

After lunch we thought we'd better give the culture thing a go, so we walked to Göreme Open-Air Museum which preserves an ancient cave community of monasteries, chapels and a spectacular church, a UNESCO World Heritage List site.Travel guides say it's a 15 minute walk, and that might be true if your an Olympic athlete but it's all uphill, in the sun today and athlete I ain't so it took a little longer than the 15 minutes.

Fortunately the view was sufficiently distracting.

lots of beautiful cave chapels and an insight how ancient people lived, a very interesting place

I took a lot of photos from under shady trees because it was hot out there in the sun.

We caught a taxi back to the hotel and it was bliss.

short rest...

and then we went quad bike riding!

so
much
fun

It was actually meant to be a fun way to see the scenery, but I'm thinking okay photo taken, scenery oo'd and ah'd ... at let's get back on the bikes!

we rode to a sunset spot, pretty ... blah blah ... QUAD BIKES!

Did I mention quad bikes?!

Also no falling off, no running into anything, no broken bones ... there was an incident where, at the end of the tour everyone arrived back in town except, except Wendy, Tony and MGM. There upon a few tense moments ensued (seemed longer) in which I was riding around town with slightly panicked guide, hoping desperately not to find a pile of Allans & Bests who had broken rule #1. Of course all was well, just a mix up of tour groups - all quad bikes look the same in the dark!

We went old school for dinner, burgers and milkshakes.

oh the happiness of MGM with a big glass of chocolate milk.

and then enjoyed a stroll through the Göreme evening, thinking about quad bikes and if we could go again tomorrow (okay that was probably only me thinking that).
