The view from my [car] window this pre-dawn morning
Every now and then when you're overseas on holidays you lose a day to travelling, the trick is to view this as not so much a loss but more an adventure. Our adventure day started at ugly o'clock (even W & T agreed 5:30 am is just ugly). We left in the moonlit Dolomites and saw the sunrise over them, whilst driving as carefully as we could to the correct train station in Venice. We parted ways with our lovely W & T there - they are spending some more time in Italy, and meeting us in Iceland via Amsterdam in a week-ish - you can follow their exploits (link to Bests Abroad in the menu).
We hurries on to the Venice airport, dropped off the car, went through the whole airport process and had 30 minutes to contemplate our navels and the wonders of Venice airport.
It was a small plane which was very full for what was fortunately, a short flight. It was however running a bit late, and it took quite some time to get everyone settled ... amateurs, so our tight connection time-frame became a knife-edge-ish connection time-frame. Once in the air as Tony suggested I watched out for the Dolomites to see if I could get an aerial pic.
and here they are poking their heads out over the clouds as we flew over them.
nothing gets this man down though, look how cute he is wedged into his tiny little airplane seat - I'm so lucky to travel through my life with my gorgeous man
... I got distracted ... where was I ...
oh yes tight connections - we hit the ground running in Charles De Gaul (yes I can say I was in Paris this trip even if it was only 45 mins), and we kept running thank you Parisians for your excellent signposting, easily readable while running at full speed. We ran for what seemed like hours but according to my watch was not. This run made up part of what was only 5ks I walked today. I don't believe that I think my watch pedometer was confused by the country-hopping. No photo of Charles De Gaul ... puff puff ... no time ... but we made the connection ... phew ... onto another small crowded plane for the thankfully short flight to Ireland.
Picking up the car in Venice with Europcar went like this: you're early?! here have this car which has not been cleaned, is not what you ordered, is not four wheel drive or snow ready and is severely dented all down one side, oh I'm I'm not going to tell you about the tolls.
Picking up the car at Hertz in Dublin - would you like the Audi or the BMW, the tolls are automatically charged, here's a map, an ice scraper enjoy your time here. Hertz wins.
plus driving on the correct side of the road again is lovely, and we're in for the night, goodnight my lovelies, see you tomorrow for Ireland adventuring.
