Pig

the view from my window this morning

MGM mentioned over on his blog that we've shortened the named of this place just a bit. The 'pig' part of Madonna De Campiglio is silent. Before we'd heard it said by a native we were pronouncing it Madonna De Cam-PIG-lio with as much emphasis on the 'pig' as we could get without spitting out our teeth or rupturing a spleen (Tony was the best at saying Cam-PIG-lio). After a while we got bored with that and, as all Aussies do, we just shortened it and went with Pig or - and we thought we were hysterically funny with this - just a pig grunting snort. So picture this dear reader ... our first night here our very kind and helpful concierge tells us that the locals shorten the name of their much loved home town to Campiglio - 'we don't use the Madonna De all the time' and four shame-faced Aussies trying not to cack themselves laughing because we all knew what the others were thinking - you've got nothing mate!

This morning was spent in Pig following our heart's desires ... the Wendys shopped, Tony the intrepid ventured to the top of yet another mountain (cue Rocky theme song) for the photography-thing and MGM was our designated napper - there has to be one otherwise it's just not a holiday. And then Tony convinced us that the mountain climbing was doable via cable car so we sallied forth to lunch at the top of the hill behind our hotel.

Yes it was a lovely chalet for a spot of lunch, because goodness knows we have been so food deprived this holiday (not), but apparently the skiier clientele had turned the getting of this lunch into a competitive sport and the boys barley escaped with their skulls in tact! The Wendys were very grateful for their efforts because we has spent a very pleasant 30 mins looking out at all the scenery, completely unaware of the bravery required for the retrieving of our food.

Climbing to the top of mountains is worth it, especially if you don't have to do the steps.
