Yes, that is a rainy Kingsford Smith Airport, which by the way was surprisingly easy to negotiate (vast amounts of paperwork notwithstanding), on the other side of that Business class window. If you're going to the airport apparently the evening is a good time to do it, no queues or craziness, although maybe the Business class thing helped, not sure. We certainly didn't experience the nightmare scenario being reported in the news media lately. I take that as a good omen, because to be perfectly honest I really didn't think the trip actually would happen until we were on the skybridge, where I think I may have slightly startled Wendy with my squealy happy dance.
Usually my first sense of holiday-excitement kicks in at bag packing time (for me maybe a week before we leave, this trip yesterday) but we're living in different times aren't we, adjusting one's expectations for what may or may not actually happen is just common sense now. I didn't force the excitement, I just let it happen and happen it did on the skybridge, helped along by the fact that we were breezing our way to the aforementioned birthday present Business class seats, whilst our wonderful birthday present givers were slogging their way through the cattle class lines.
We toasted them with our champers and they, well they waved at us. God bless them.
I unintentionally enthusiastically enjoyed the funny movie. I know this because every flight attendant asked individually which one it was so they could add to their watch list. Why wasn't the whole cabin laughing themselves out of their seats - it was hilarious. The Lost city in case you're wondering too.
We dined with our silver service and slept in our flat beds (apparently the boys did not do much of either).
and then it was still Wednesday

Hello Hawaii! The airport at this end was easy too, I'm pleasantly surprised. All our bags arrived, thanks Qantas, we found our hotel, thanks seasoned Hawaii travellers Wendy and Tony.
the view from my hotel window (still Wednesday) much more happy dancing.
After a bit of unpacking for us (our room was ready) and family hugs for Wendy Tony and Erin (they haven't seen each other in a long Covid-restricted time) we hit the streets in search of food and oh my goodness we found the Cheesecake factory. Well Erin is our guide, she's practically a local, so she knew it was there ;)
Very cleverly we shared meals, they're HUGE, and sussed out what cheesecake we'd get later in the day because of the no room left after the delicious lunch situation. I think eating is going to be just wonderful here.
Being devoted to the sea as the Allans are we went for a swim in that pristine surf which is right out the front of our hotel. I took a bag with the necessities of beach life, towel, block out, hat, sunnies, phone, and we all spent the whole time in the water with our eagle eyes on it because all our phones ended up in this bag and what a bonanza that would be for the casual crook.
This is the beach we swam at, perhaps I won't take my phone tomorrow, if we ever get to Thursday. It's still Wednesday, I'm not sure how that can be possible but we're all starting to get a bit tired at this point so we follow the Wooli rule and go back for kip after our swim.
ah that sleep you have after a swim (and a recent plane flight) the sinking down and becoming one with the bed - so good.
It's still Wednesday, but I think this might be a good sign
We got our cheesecakes for dessert (coconut cream for MGM and lemon raspberry from me) and had them for supper in our room at I think an appropriate supper time? possibly not? Holiday time means it doesn't really matter what time we eat but I will be exceedingly pleased if I can wake up tomorrow and find that it's Thursday.
Business class looks AMAZING. I'm completely jealous. And of course you were the hilarity of the flight. There's nothing better than when you start laughing out loud.
ReplyDeleteThe view from your window is amazing. It's so clear and bright - it doesn't seem real.
