Nagasaki day 1

The view from my window this morning

Yes, that is in fact dawn. In honour of the need to be at the ferry boat in time to travel over the Ariake Sea on our way to Nagasaki. We got there in time for a quick photo bomb.

And then get the bus on the ferry. Apparently the thing to do is feed the birds, which got a wee bit crazy to be honest.

We got unceremoniously dumped at an open air museum commemorating Dejima - an area of the city that was sectioned off in the 1600s for non-indigenous (Dutch mainly) and Christians to protect the locals from their influence. We didn’t know any of this of course. We had no idea why we were there and wondered around dazed until those of us with global roaming could do sufficient googling. Once we got our bearings it was actually a good attempt at a Skansen-like park albeit smaller, with rooms set up to look as they would have been then.

This is the Methodist Church

Next stop was an interesting bridge, take a photo to see ‘spectacles’

And a walk along a street that has 12 shrines all in a row.

And one last photo bomb

Our last adventure

We thought, will we go out with a bang or a whimper? And decided on the latter because … well why not pack as much in as you possibly can … ...
