Sea(birth)day

The view from my brunch window.

We got to our fave restaurant early for lunch (late for brekki bc of the birthday sleepin) which meant we got the coveted window seat. We never get this seat, we rarely eat early, and the regular early birds were a bit miffed but gracious enough to chat with us.

Evelyn, is a lovely Pennsylvanian senior with a daughter and 4yo grandson in the UK who grew up without her thanks to covid.

Roberto is a very dapper octogenarian from San Fran or San Josè I couldn’t catch which and was shunned from the conversation for a bit for my lack of attentiveness. He loves cruising, mostly drinks dinner and doesn’t do the shore excursions anymore. He’s a sweetie & appears to be the wait-staff’s favourite.

All the same people dine with us, it’s so interesting to see the Einsteins. So named for the Dad’s coif. That Dad’s hair has the Einstein look is probably directly proportional to the four teenage girls and wife he dines with each evening.

There’s old lady grey hair and her hubby. Her hair is long, luxurious and yes grey. She wears it like an extra piece of clothing.

And our maître d, Ricardo (or as we have named him for his constant catch phrase ‘compliments to the chef’) who welcomes us every evening like we’re his children and cooks delicious things right there in front of us that are sometimes better than come from the kitchen chef.

But by far the most interesting are The Three Musketeers bc one of these oldies is sometimes a woman and sometimes a bloke. Waiting to see his/her attire for the evening is a dinner highlight.

Anyway after brunch I went to the spa for the best hot rock massage of my entire life (no photos obvs) and then stumbled back the the suite for the best nap of my life.

There was some crochet time out here …

Some FaceTime with my much missed family, best birthday gift of all.

There was a pre-dinner sidecar

Then birthday dinner was lobster vol-au-vent

Chicken scallopini

And

blueberry cobbler

I have put in my order for all future birthdays to be so delightful and have my fingers crossed that I should be so lucky to have such a perfect day again.

Our last adventure

We thought, will we go out with a bang or a whimper? And decided on the latter because … well why not pack as much in as you possibly can … ...
